Time, Space Existence
Biennale Architettura 2023
18th International Architecture Exhibition
"Architecture is the very mirror of life" Pei says. "You only have to cast your eyes on buildings to feel the presence of the past, the spirit of a place; they are a reflection on society."
I S S A is a void that encourages the user to be lost in the now. It is a connection between the self and the moment. An aura of mystery translated into matter, defined by a timeline of materials from the ground rising up, representing the past, and the now. The space provokes an emotional Reaction; a sensitive awareness for the user to reconnect with their existence.

“We should not be afraid to create contemporary buildings”
At 3DM Architecture, we're excited to showcase our project ISSA at the Biennale di Venezia. Our installation reflects the belief that we should create contemporary buildings that mirror the Maltese identity for the next 50-100 years. ISSA uses local materials and promotes sustainable building methods while respecting the environment. Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi praised our innovative ideas, and we agree that it's important to challenge our own concepts and use our national heritage to create something new. 3DM Architecture held an exhibition in Malta that will also be showcased at the Biennale di Venezia 2023. The exhibition highlighted Malta's prehistoric architecture as a reflection of society's past, present, and future and emphasized the need to reconnect with our roots and principles in the face of the contemporary architectural crisis. By providing a refreshing perspective and reminding us of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage, the exhibition offered insights on how to overcome the lack of identity and craftsmanship in today's architecture.
Malta’s 'non-existent architectural identity' goes on display at Venice Biennale
At 3DM Architecture, we were honored to have presented our art installation, Issa (Now), at the esteemed Venice Biennale. Our installation aimed to confront the contemporary architectural crisis in Malta and address the absence of a distinct architectural identity. By utilizing local Maltese materials like weathered stone blocks, gravel, and carved stone, we invited viewers to reflect and contemplate. Our objective was to reconnect with Malta's roots, preserve our cultural heritage, and inspire a new architectural identity that harmonized tradition and innovation. By participating in the Biennale, we believed it was imperative to shed light on the lack of identity in Maltese architecture on a global platform. Together, we aimed to shape a future where contemporary structures reflected the richness of Maltese heritage for generations to come. Click Here to View Times of Malta's post on ISSA.
